We Endure
There is no clear distinction
Between this "new generation" & "ours"-
Even the nomenclature is sophomoric-
Naive beyond reason.
There is no demarcation line
Between generations.
Rather a gradual shift of attitudes & aptitudes
Which vacillate over time-
Given a war, revolution, or collapse of order.
All values modified during a crisis
Revert to type as stasis ensues-
Yet modified by the stress
As would an organic system-
Say a human, subjected to unforeseen duress.
We rotate on a sunny plateau.
Morning sun. A family duo
Seeing through all the difficulties-
Whenever they arise.
A logical sequence is pursued
And peace is renewed.
On the macro-scale of indifference
A government is proposed
But not completed.
We are grateful for the past
And impatient for a better future.
We are the have-nots of America-
Awaiting our day in the sun-
Unsure that our genes, as modified,
Are sufficient to cross the divide
Between survival & elation
Between momentary & long duration
And thus we are eternally unsure-
Yet hopeful, and in that we endure.
