Spinning a Thread
Repel fearlessly
Down the face of the building
You once climbed laboriously
Story by story
Step by step.
Careful not to slip,
Cautious but calculating
Willing to take the risk
All the way up
To a high floor
Just below where they jump from.
Not quite the rooftop-
More a supporting role.
Stay there a while
Soak in the view,
Sip a Barolo or two
Then powder the vault with gold dust
And paper it with poems
And kiss her better
Than she could ever have been kissed
And then start the descent.
Slow, careful at first
Then bounding out & down
Like a spider in mid-fall
Spinning a thread
Connecting it all-
Yes, we were perfect
Our experience
And then a long plateau
High plains lovers
All the way to the end,
Upon which point, she released me.
