The dancer paused
Knees flexed slightly
Arm out-stretched in perfect balance
Fingers in full control of the sphere
To be spun gently, high
In the scented air
To descend & defy gravity
For a split-second
As the net snaps in its glory
Recognizing the skill & accuracy
When time after time after time
The ball finds the perfect entry.
Windows open & the eyes peer out -
The dancer resumes the dance -
Able to find the motionless moment
Seemingly at will
When all the strength & fluidity
Works in exquisite symmetry
Under sub-conscious control.
While the mind can observe & recall
The brain can imagine a world of its own
And the imagination can fly away
To dance to its own choreography
Without being tied to molecular physiology
And the restrictions of mass & gravity.
Up here, in the realm of dreams
Everything is possible
Regardless of age or infirmity.
The images can be seen
And the thrill can still be felt
Though everything is somewhat muted
Compared to youth when it exults.
