You wake up
It seems like the first time
On a sandy dune at seadrift
Out the peninsula, near Bolinas
The afternoon sun baking
The cross country trip completed
Dune plants flowering
Her hair more auburn then ever
Body golden, eyes glowing green lights -
Signals of intent.
We recline in our familiar embrace
She leans her head just so
As to crush my imprudent lips with hers
Looking out over the giant waves
Wondering how long
Until they over-took us
Make us their latest victims -
To conform to the norm
Head for higher, safer ground
Go to the city
Be a lawyer, be a saint
And the futility & humor of it all....
Giving up paradise
To find yourself
Enter the fray
Sooner or later
See what society has in store for you
Exercise your will
Find your business.
Accept paradise
When it happens. -
When it doesn't,
Find it anyway.
