DEEP IN EGOTOPIA

 

You could arrive

At the most poignant moment –

When reality is captured

In an expression and a phrase

That perfectly displays the essence

Of our social situation

Our political persuasion

And our internal disposition

And no one would notice. –

So deep in their egotopia

So slouched into their phone

So enamored with their vices

That the outside world is a void

         An empty 5 hour energy can

         A vape with no kick

         A hit with no jolt

         The maxed-out young adult

         A drifter without a clue

         Lost in Amarillo

         Somewhere in New Mexico

         Where the coyotes call

         Throughout the lonely night –

         No Hotel California

         With its beaming golden lights.

We drift into another war –

They call it Ukraine

But it is all of Europe and North America

Setting the rockets off by computer

Paying for the rockets

Training the pilots –

They just have a Ukraine uniform

Splattered with the blood of their children
