Completely Absorbed
So here you are
In the middle of a dream
Having lived seven decades
Yet aware of the first
As when the first day of school
Age 4, walking through the heavy doors
Into a world of hundreds of boys & girls
Each a version of God's will,
And there you were, among them
As if you belonged
A group, all near your age
Same neighborhood
You walked to school
Stopped at the corner market
Parlayed dreams of stardom
into a pack of playing cards
And then onto the diamond
The great ball park
Where the speed of rounding first
Turned the single to a double
And then stealing third
Became a mythological battle to be won
A battle of high esteem
After the last sprint & dunk
After the last 3-point shot
And then millions made and kept
Of beauty unknown to any other
Just yours, your perfect lover
So that you
At the end of a long, long life
Will feel fully
Completely absorbed in the beauty it provides
