Compared to the Unknown
The world has its magical places
And if you find one
Be resolute in your admiration
For nature offers the framework
For all our other judgements -
How are we to judge an action
Or evaluate alternatives
If we don't know the ramifications
To our shared heritage -
For we who live here today
Are short term renters -
We own nothing
Not your billionairesses
Or your political front men
When you wander our wonderland
And saunter into a canyon
Surrounded by mountainous vertical walls
With a narrow river flowing below
And realize the power of a million years
Carved into stone you feel the magic -
A poem of gratitude
To be allowed to penetrate
The hearts of each who observe God's work.
And in your backyard
There is a tree
Or meadow, creek or parking lot
And you are left speechless
At the beauty that emanates -
Knowing full well
That there is no objective beauty -
All things are judged
In relation to each other
And this reality is pure beauty compared to the unknown.
