Choosing Mercy
The high arc of the surpassing moon
Can set you free
If you let it,
If you attach yourself to its flight
From east to west
In a graceful sweep
It casts its own shadows
Long after the sun is asleep
And all the countryside
Is bathed in pale white
The other side of the world
Is emblazoned with the golden heat
And such a cycle
Brings harmony to the soul
Around & on it goes
And, forever, west will be west
No matter the political economic consequences
Of bickering theories of God & government
No matter the results
Of personal disputes
We end up in our own flood of emotions
Unless we accept everything that happens.
So the long shadows of winter
Give way to the totality of illumination
When the truth is right above you
And all you need to do is listen.
All the enemies gather
Every man faces doom
You walk upright into the gloom
And challenge the obstacle
While observing all passions around it -
And choosing mercy over ego
