AS SHE DID
Exposed Bay mud turns blue
In late afternoon sunset
Orange spears float across the shore
Gulls have skimmed to the next cove
Not a straggler to be seen
Except me in a semi-dream
Imagining all the wonders
I have seen
And the love I believed
Suddenly the clear sky
Absorbs the days heat
Leaving cold and empty hearts
To wait for morning
To bring light and hope again
As it always does
Silence settles over the shoreline
A cold quiet
A January silence
Imaginary snow accumulating around us
Waiting until March to melt
When the sun is once again high
And will not tolerate indignities
Like dirty old snow
And icy dreams of fate
But rather melt the most frozen heart
Allow love’s heat
Kindle fires of desire
In the wildest of eyes.
And then it is Spring
And the warmth hovers
And she smiles again
As she did
