This idea of privacy -

Cameras on nearly every city street

Cameras on tens of millions of cars & trucks

Cameras on every phone

Carried everywhere with nearly everyone

One would have to have perfected the art

Of invisibility, not just to others,

But to electronic devices,

In order to keep their position "private".

Where do we, citizens of these United States,

Have a "reasonable expectation of privacy"

As our justices are fond of interpreting -

In ways fluid, malleable, vague & misleading.

Whatever constitutional rights you have

Are vacated with a search warrant

Only requiring, typically, "reasonable suspicion"

In itself a vague phrase

Beyond the issues of issuance -

What procedures are "required"

In order to get a valid search warrant.

Walk freely in the knowledge of innocence.

Avoid intrusion giving rise to mis-interpretation

The modern surveillance society

Leaves little room for malignants to hide.

Not Singapore yet

But headed in that direction -

Authority grants itself more authority.

A rising tide of criminals

Gives buoyancy to strict enforcement.

Usurping freedoms from others -

The result of?

Everyone has their list.
